Show Notes

The Ring Shout

The Ring Shout is one of the oldest customs in African American culture. It dates back to the beginning of enslavement in the U.S. when captives combined elements of Christianity with African songs and dance rituals. Africans began the practice so they and their descendants could keep the rhythms of their heritage alive. Some of us would compare this as the "holy dance" growing up today in our own church practices.
